Perak – The Manjung Municipal Council (MMC), along with the Manjung District Education Office has successfully concluded Sayangi Malaysiaku: MalaysiaBersih, an environmental education programme involving 120 students here.
In light of the Merdeka Month celebration, Sayangi Malaysiaku: MalaysiaBersih is a programme aimed at cultivating love towards the country by loving the environment.
It is focused on promoting and delivering environmental education with sustainability at its core.
Graced and launched by En. Issamudin Ibrahim, Administrative Officer of the Manjung Social and Community Development Department , (Manjung Municipal Council) the programme is also supported by the Perak Fisheries Department, Cenergi SEA Sdn Bhd (Cenergi) as well as non-governmental organisations, including Go Green and Sahabat Alam.
The programme kicked off at at Pasir Panjang Turtle Conservation and Information Centre with students from eight schools and a university from Perak, Kuala Lumpur and Sabah.
Schools from Manjung that were involved included SK Pantai Remis, SK Panchor, SK Pengkalan Baharu, SK Sungai Batu, SK Ladang Huntly, SK Segari, City Harbour International School, and Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UNiKL-MIMET). SK Garama from Beaufort, Sabah, participated in the event as the special guest school as part of its educational visit to Kuala Lumpur and Cenergi Pantai Remis Biogas Project.
Ernest Navaratnam, Group Chief Executive Officer of Cenergi said, “The foundation of the company is built on the principles of sustainability. Tuan Syamsul Hazeman Md Salleh, President of MMC said, “this programme aims to further strengthen and sustain Manjung Municipal Council in positioning Manjung as both a maritime and tourist hub”.
Cikgu Anuar bin Mohamad, the Senior Administrative Officer I of SK Pantai Remis said, “I would like to thank Cenergi SEA Sdn Bhd for bridging the relationship between schools in the Pantai Remis district and a school from Sabah. I hope through this programme, they are able to foster a closer relationship and exchanging ideas in order to further improve quality of education”.
Among the activities lined up for the event include hands-on participation in turtle conservation, an innovative recycled plastics exhibition, ‘ambung-ambung’ tree planting (for turtles to lay eggs under), sand carving competition and beach clean-up.
Cenergi is one of the largest grid-connected Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) biogas players in Malaysia. The company operates six plants, including one at Pantai Remis, Perak.
