The Biggest Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) Grid-Connected Biogas Power Plant
The Cenergi FJP Biogas Power Plant is our flagship facility and the largest POME-based grid-connected biogas plant in Malaysia, and possibly the world, with a total installed capacity of 5.5 MW.
The project was developed in two phases under the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme. Phase 1, with a capacity of 1.5 MW, began operations in 2019 using a Jenbacher engine. Phase 2 added 4.0 MW in 2024 with two Caterpillar engines.
Together, the plant generates more than 41,000 MWh of electricity annually, enough to power approximately 14,000 homes. It has also helped avoid over 566,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions as of July 2024, with impact verified through international methodologies including AMS-III.H and AMS-I.F.
Beyond technical performance, the FJP plant reflects Cenergi’s leadership in delivering scalable biogas infrastructure and supporting Malaysia’s low-carbon transition.
Malaysia’s First Biogas Project with Verra-Verified Carbon Credits
Cenergi SEA’s Langkap Biogas Power Plant, located in Perak, is one of our renewable energy projects which captures methane from palm oil mill effluent and converts it into clean electricity — helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support Malaysia’s energy transition.
The project is notable as the first biogas power plant in Malaysia to be approved for technology-based carbon credits under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), reflecting our continued commitment to credible and impactful climate solutions.
With a projected annual output of approximately 32,000 Verified Carbon Units (VCUs), the project contributes to meaningful carbon avoidance while strengthening Cenergi SEA’s presence in the Malaysian Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM).
The first tranche of issuance was successfully obtained in December 2024, with a total of 36,551 VCUs verified and issued by Verra for the crediting period from 16 February 2023 to 31 May 2024 — representing a key step forward in the development of our carbon asset portfolio.
Malaysia’s First Solar Farm under the CGPP-NEDA Scheme
The 11.3 MW Sungai Tiang Solar Farm, commissioned in 2024, is a landmark project for Cenergi and Malaysia’s renewable energy sector. It is the first solar farm completed under the Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP) through the New Enhanced Dispatch Arrangement (NEDA) mechanism, setting a national benchmark for corporate-driven clean energy.
Through this programme, licensed producers like Cenergi can supply electricity directly to the grid, while corporations reduce their carbon footprint via virtual power purchase agreements (vPPA). The Sungai Tiang plant generates more than 15,000 MWh of renewable electricity each year, enough to support both national energy security and corporate decarbonisation goals.
Equipped with high-efficiency photovoltaic systems and advanced grid integration, the project highlights Cenergi’s strong technical expertise and execution capabilities. More than just a solar farm, it represents the power of policy innovation and private sector leadership in accelerating Malaysia’s path toward net zero.
